Girls Soccer With Momentum On Their Side in Playoffs
The 2012 King’s Academy Lady Lions once again enter the post season with momentum and success in their corner. The Lions enter the district tournament with a 13-2-1 record and a top seed – for the fifth year in a row. With 56 goals scored and only 15 against, the Lions have had their most successful regular season yet as they prepare to win a sixth straight district tournament. Led by five seniors, the team is actually blessed with youth and great prospects for the future, as well. Seniors Bailey Mudrick, Jerusha Pervenecki, Monique Belanger, Danielle Hurme, and Phelan Johnson lead a team that has no juniors, a wealth of sophomores, and some highly-talented freshmen and 8th graders. That group won the Adidas Palm Beach Classic in December for the first time, beating Merritt Island HS, Park Vista HS, and Royal Palm Beach HS by a combined score of 12-1. Sophomore Sarah Collins leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and 7 assists, and senior Danielle Hurme has added 7 goals and 9 assists. Mudrick and Pervenecki lead a defense that has earned 9 shut outs with Goalkeeper Rachel Spell protecting the goal for the fifth year in a row – and achieving a 1.06 goals against average. The team will play their semi-final district game Wednesday at Cardinal Newman.
