Lifting Another Trophy

MIAMI SHORES- The TKA girls weightlifting team made history in more ways than one at Saturday’s district tournament at Doctor’s Charter School.  The Lions won the program’s first district title, taking home the traditional category, and in the process won the 300th team championship in King’s Academy history.

While the Lions got great performances up and down the weight classes, sophomore T’Nesha Rasmussen and senior Sasha Cousins led the way with individual district championships in both traditional and olympic lifting.  Sammy Van Alstyne, Ashlyn Martin, Amanda Thompson, and Mariana Modica all won district championships in the traditional category.  Fifteen Lions put up performances that qualified for Regionals: Rasmussen, Cousins, Van Alstyne, Martin, Thompson, Modica, Sophia Ruiz, Sofia Cousins, Abby Chirch, Kaylee Lupoe, Chey George, Morgan Patrie, Kelsey Kotiyan, Morgan Cartwright, and Ari Barrett.

The Lions will be back in action next Saturday at Keys Gate Charter as they compete for regional team titles in traditional and olympic lifting.
