Champs! Lions Win District

WEST PALM BEACH- For the first time in 14 years, the King’s Academy girls soccer program is the district championship.  The Lions withstood cold temperatures and a gritty Benjamin squad to capture the title with a 2-1 overtime win.

The Buccaneers struck first, sneaking a goal past the Lions defense midway through the first half.  From that point forward, TKA dominated possession and eventually tied the match at 1-1 with a Mia Mackrey goal from beyond the box early in the second half.  Despite a flurry of shots, Benjamin held off the Lions attack and forced overtime.  In the extra period, Mackrey struck again on a beautiful long breakaway goal to give the Lions the lead.  The defense held strong through the second period of overtime, helping the Lions clinch the program’s 10th district title.

The Lions now advance to the regional round as the likely number one seed in the region.  They will play at home on Monday, February 2.
