Ahearn’s Late Goal Lifts Lions

WEST PALM BEACH- Nicholas Ahearn scored a goal midway through the second half and the Lions defense buckled down late to down previously undefeated Suncoast 2-1 on Tuesday. Senior goalkeeper Chris Gimotty turned away a flurry of Charger shots in the closing minutes to preserve the win for the Lions.
The Lions struck first early in the first half, when action off a corner kick deflected off a Suncoast defender and bounced into the goal. Flavio Guazzotti was credited with the goal that staked TKA to the lead. The two teams locked into a defensive battle for the next 50 minutes, with neither team able to find the back of the net. Just before the water break in the second half, Ahearn got his foot on a rebound off a corner and snuck the ball past the Charger goalkeeper. Suncoast tightened the game almost immediately after the break, making it 2-1. From that point, the Lions were on the defense and held strong despite a rush of Suncoast offense.
With the win, the Lions improve to 4-2 overall. The fourth win matches the win total from a year ago, demonstrating the strides the team has already made in the first month of the season. The Lions will take on Lincoln Park on the road on Friday.
