Lions Sweep WA Titles

FORT LAUDERDALE- The King’s Academy swim program continued their impressive start to the 2026 season on Saturday with a sweep of both championships at the Westminster Christian School Invite. Both teams sprinted past the competition of seven schools, with the girls scoring 543 points to outpace second place Carrollton School (365) and the boys racking up 553 points to top second place Westminster Academy (402).

On the girls side, a trio of Lions led the way.  Senior Tessa Broedell, a Miami commit, posted wins in the 200 free and the 500 free.  Junior Selah Austin, a state qualifier, picked up first place finishes in the 50 free and the 100 free.  Newcomer Kana Ichikawa added two top finishes of her own, winning the 200 IM and 100 back.  Anna Niehues (100 fly) and Cali Jarabek (100 fly) also had a first place medal.  The girls swept all of the relays for the day.

For the boys, sophomore Yasser Raad-Franchesi and senior Hamilton Gates both had two first place finishes for TKA.  Gates, an Army commit, took the 200 free and the 500 free, while Raad-Franchesi won the 100 fly and the 100 back.  Senior Othniel Foster won the 50 free and junior Aaron McQueeney was victorious in the 100 free.  Like the girls, the boys won each of the relays on Saturday.

The Lions will be back in the pool this Saturday for the prestigious The Other Invite at Indian River State College.
