Wrestling 10-0 in Dual Meets

WEST PALM BEACH- In just the second season of the program’s existence, King’s Academy wrestling has already made its mark on the South Florida grappling scene.  After a championship performance at the Raich Memorial Duals at Cardinal Newman, the Lions are 10-0 in dual meets so far this season.

The Lions were dominant at Newman, winning all five matches en route to the program’s first championship victory.  TKA defeated Suncoast, Cardinal Newman, Boca High School, Atlantic High School, and John I. Leonard to claim the tournament title.  The closest match was a 14-point win over the host Crusaders.  In addition to those wins on Saturday, the Lions also have wins over St. Andrew’s, Benjamin, and Jupiter Christian on the season.

Several individuals have stood out during the Lions undefeated start to the season.  Heavyweight Dartayvious Saintelus  qualified for state last season and appears to be well on his way to a return trip.  He is currently 20-2 and was an impressive 6-1 at December’s Santaluces Christmas tournament.  Ryo Ushikubo, wrestling at 144 pounds, boasts a record of 18-4.  He has the second most wins on the team.  Ryan Winters (138 pounds) has picked up 13 wins as one of the most consistent wrestlers on the team.  Prior to an ankle injury, 157 pound wrestler Tyce Porcher was 7-4.  He hopes to return by district action to make a playoff run.  Ridge Martin has compiled a solid 11-6 record wrestling at 215 pounds.  TKA newcomer Levi Champion currently holds a record of 10-8 at 175 pounds and has been a strong addition to a deep Lions’ team.

King’s will wrestle another dual and an additional tournament before entering district playoff action in mid February.
