WEST PALM BEACH- Most of the county’s sports writers picked against the King’s Academy in their home opener against St. Andrew’s. The Lions didn’t get the memo.  TKA rolled past the rival Scots in a 23-8 gritty victory on Friday night to improve to 2-0 on the season.

To call the first half of the game a defensive battle would be an understatement.  The only points of the half came on a sack of the punter in the end zone by Chase Crouteau to give the Lions a 2-0 halftime lead.  The defenses continued to rule the day until late in the third quarter London Janse Van Rensburg connected with Jack Miller on a five-yard strike to give the Lions a 9-0 lead.   Midway through the fourth quarter, senior running back Roman Driggers shook loose for a 57-yard score to extend the Lions lead to 16-0.  The Scots made it interesting in the final minute, blocking a punt and recovering it in the endzone for a touchdown.  The Lions struck back immediately, however, as senior Jacob Gerstel returned the ensuing onside kick 53 yards for a touchdown to cement the final score at 23-8.

The Lions defense has been stellar through two weeks, allowing just six points overall.  They will look to lead the Lions to a 3-0 mark this Friday as TKA hosts Clewiston at 7:00 pm. The theme is Red Wave and Lions fans are encouraged to wear red.
